Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin last night brought down the house at a Shareholders in Life fund-raiser held in Las Vegas. The event was closed to the press, so details on her speech are sparse, however, we have every reason to believe this was a very significant speech. We can point to some of her other significant pro-life speeches as guides to what she most likely said last night, the most recent being Gov Palin Urges Schiavo Gala Crowd to Fight for Life, Human Dignity. In 2009, Gov. Palin received an IGHL award for defending people with special needs and she gave a very significant speech on the sanctity of life in Vandenburg, Indiana a few months prior.

In the hours leading up to her speech, Gov. Palin and her daughter Bristol called out Obama for speaking at a Planned Parenthood event the same night. In Gov. Palin: There’s no such thing as a coincidence, she referenced the racist and eugenicist origins of Planned Parenthood and how the organization stood silent on Kermit Gosnell’s infanticides. Bristol Palin urged her readers to sign a petition to de-fund Planned Parenthood.

Gov. Palin has not merely preached pro-life values, but has lived them. Her youngest son, Trig, 5, has Down Syndrome. As we wrote in Happy 5th Birthday Trig Paxson Van Palin!, 93% of babies diagnosed with Down Syndrome are aborted.

Bristol, Mark Hop to Broken Barriers on DWTS Week 4

Bristol and Mark hopped their way to an out-shining of last week’s personal best dance, the Dancing With the Stars judges declared about this week’s rock and roll dance performance. The team’s dance, scored to Danny and the Juniors classic At the Hop harkened back to the era of Happy Days and jukeboxes stacked with 45s. Mark had wanted to do the dance in bunny costumes, a move which Bristol wisely vetoed. “I don’t want to be the joke this week,” Bristol said while training for the routine.

Guest judge Paula Abdul said, “I definitely see some improvement, Bristol and it looks like you’re starting to have some fun…and Mark I definitely appreciate what you’re trying to do with the choreography and keeping the pace up.” Abdul counseled Bristol to “keep pushing those boundaries, because if you don’t they’ll be pushing you and maybe not in the direction you want to go.” She concluded with, “good job. I’m proud of you.”

Judge Bruno Tonioli said, “Bristol, Bristol, Bristol – you finally got pumping up out there! You were hitting all your steps very, very fast, very, very quick. I told you to focus. Remember Week One? Tonight, you were focused, you were doing it, you were pumping it. You were doing every step as it was shown to you. You didn’t lose focus. Well done!”

Carrie Ann Inabla motioned to Bristol to come over. She extended both hands and took Bristol’s and said, “good job! I am so impressed with you! You really are coming to life out there!” “I, I,” Inaba began as she and Bristol released each other’s hands, “it’s so nice to see you coming out of your shell this way. You’re truly blossoming. You lost a little steam at the end of the performance, but my God, what an improvement! Congratulations.”

Judge Len Goodman said, “the only real failure is the failure to try, and I thought you came out and gave it your all, which was fantastic! It had speed. It had energy. There was elements of rock and roll, jive, and Lindy. All in there. A little safe on occasion, but for me your best dance so far.”

Because the judging panel consisted of four judges this week, rather than the usual three, scores were based on 40, not the usual 30. Bristol and Mark scored 32 out of 40 placing them second from the bottom on the leader board. As in prior weeks, this is a mixed message where the judges’ high praise does not correspond with their scores. Their position on the leader board places Team Ballin in jeopardy. Bristol and Mark’s scores, however, have been steadily climbing. They broke out of the sixes doldrums last week with 7.5s and now got solid eights, which mathematically would have also occurred with a three-judge panel. Bristol’s lightning has so far struck twice with fan votes overriding judges’ scores.

Bristol and Mark begin The Hop…

Palin and Todd between Bristol and Mark in the background, out of focus at that distance). Gov. Palin has been to all of Bristol’s DWTS performances thus far…
